Digital challenges and their impact on children
The Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain is commendably making outstanding and pioneering efforts to protect children, reflecting its deep commitment to building a safe and prosperous future for future generations. By adopting comprehensive policies and effective programs, the government seeks to create an environment that protects children's rights, ensures their physical and psychological well-being, and provides them with a safe and supportive environment that enables them to grow and learn with confidence and security. These efforts are not only an investment in the present of children, but also an investment in the future of Bahrain as a whole, ensuring a strong and prosperous society. Under the prosperous reign of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, may God protect him, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, and thanks to the constant support and active participation of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, who have worked with their customary wisdom and insightful vision to achieve cooperation between government agencies, educational institutions, and civil society organizations to foster a safe environment for children in cyberspace, transcending all thorny and difficult boundaries. With their support, we are overcoming all the challenges and obstacles facing our society in the digital environment.
One of the most prominent aspects of government support for social, psychological, and health care programs is the launch of intensive awareness campaigns aimed at raising awareness among children and parents about potential risks, especially in cyberspace. These campaigns educate society on how to prevent online exploitation and blackmail, enhancing children's ability to deal with digital challenges with awareness and responsibility. Because the government attaches great importance to legislation and laws that protect children's rights, these laws are constantly updated to ensure the necessary protection from all forms of violence and exploitation. In addition, the government provides psychological and social support to children who need it, ensuring they receive the comprehensive care necessary to overcome difficulties. We should not forget the cooperation between government agencies, educational institutions, and civil society organizations, which enhances the effectiveness of these efforts. Through this cooperation, educational programs and workshops are developed that focus on digital safety and positive societal values, helping to build an aware generation capable of protecting themselves and acting responsibly. Anyone contemplating the unique governmental, civil, and civic fabric that came together to launch the national awareness campaign to protect children from exploitation and electronic blackmail, "Himaya," and to monitor the achievement of its objectives, will see the tremendous efforts exerted and the strong national spirit that brought all these entities together, working toward a single goal that serves the national interest. The Public Prosecution, the Supreme Judicial Council, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Social Development - Child Protection Center, the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Endowments, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Information and eGovernment Authority, the National Institution for Human Rights, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, the Institute of Judicial and Legal Studies, the National Communication Center, sponsoring private companies, and all community and civic organizations, such as the Arab Center for Electronic Media and others. This unified, cooperative fabric stands today united to build a safe and prosperous future for the Kingdom of Bahrain, starting with the generation of children, the ambitious youth of the future. Among the unique initiatives the Arab Center for Electronic Media intends to launch in the near future is a distinguished forum titled "Child Safety Forum in the Digital World: Protection and Prevention." The forum aims to raise awareness among parents and teachers about the dangers of cyber exploitation and blackmail of children, present effective strategies for protecting them in cyberspace, and enhance cooperation between educational, technical, and security institutions to protect them. The forum will include topics such as awareness and education, modern technologies, community roles, laws and legislation, and psychological and social support. It targets parents, teachers and school administrators, child protection workers, and representatives of government agencies and civil society organizations. There is a clear need at this time to enhance legal literacy and media awareness to combat cybercriminals, particularly those who target children, and the need for cooperation between legislative, executive, and judicial authorities to address this issue. The "Protection" campaign is a pivotal initiative addressing the increasing digital challenges of the modern era, as children have become more vulnerable to online risks amid the rapid digital transformation. This highlights the importance of this campaign in promoting awareness and protection for children, enabling them to use the internet safely and responsibly. This includes teaching them how to protect their personal information and deal with blackmail or exploitation attempts with caution. This awareness is essential for building a generation capable of protecting themselves in the digital environment. The campaign also provides legal and psychological support to children who have been subjected to exploitation or blackmail. Having a strong support network helps victims recover and overcome the negative experiences they have endured. Furthermore, through workshops, seminars, and awareness-raising events, the campaign seeks to create a societal culture that recognizes the importance of protecting children in cyberspace. These efforts contribute to building a conscious and civilized society capable of effectively confronting digital challenges. We, as citizens, must also be an integral part of the efforts to ensure the safety of the younger generations. We must play a vital role in promoting community awareness and working together to provide a safe and healthy environment for our children and the rest of society.
